(Common Sense)

I’m a Los Angeles based Augmented Reality Product Designer currently working at Snap Inc.

My work explores physical-digital realities — from developing spatial interfaces and experiences used by millions to creating viral videos that spark conversation about what is real and what is fake.

My interests stem from an early obsession with animation and vfx, a fascination with future technologies, and a constant desire to create.

Snap AR

2015 - Present
AR Product Design

As the first member of Snapchat’s Augmented Reality team, I’ve spent the last 8 years creating AR products and systems used by millions of people and hold multiple patents for my innovations in this space. I’ve played key roles in the development of several Snap AR products including World Lens, Lens Studio, and Spectacles.

I create tools that feel fun, easy and magical. Many of the products I’ve worked on enable users to create in AR without requiring prior technical experience. Recent examples include 3D Snaps and AR Create. Though this, I hope to empower the Snap community and inspire the next generation of AR creators.

Dream Generator

2023
Camera Prototype

Dream Generator is a prototype I built that merges photography with the magic of generative AI. Users can choose from 30 stylistic prompts and capture images that are then reimagined and remixed by the device. Made on a Raspberry Pi, this prototype leverages Stable Diffusion and ControlNet to preserve the composition while adding new imaginative elements to the original photo.

While something like this could be done on a smartphone, the simplicity and form factor of a point-and-shoot camera brings back the fun in photography. The project has garnered attention from a several online publications including 80 Level, Peta Pixel, and Product Hunt.

Landscape

2023
Short Film

Landscape delves into the ever-changing nature of our surroundings, seamlessly blending 20 unique scenes captured from around LA into one continuously panning shot. The film invites viewers on a journey through Los Angeles, exploring the different layers and complexities of the sprawling metropolis.

The film was made using AI tools Dall-E 2 and Stable Diffusion to stitch a series of 360 videos together. Landscape was selected as a finalist in Runway ML’s 2023 AI Film Fest and received the Merit Award.

Computer Generated

2022
Book

Computer Generated represents a holistic, big picture view of independent, artist-driven CG and features 210 artists from 39 countries. The collection takes a deep dive into the movement and showcases a cross-section of work from some of the most innovative, imaginative and influential contemporary CG creators.

Digital artists deserve to be appreciated in books, galleries and museums – yet, because of the nature of the medium living online, they don’t always get that recognition. Computer Generated seeks to communicate the inherent value of digital art. In print, this work can transcend the confines of a screen and take on a life outside of online platforms.

MetaButts

2022
Generative Art

MetaButts is a tongue in cheek generative art project, consisting of 1,000 one-of-a-kind 3D rendered butts made from over 500 different assets. Rather than assembling each image from a series of 2D images, each butt has been procedurally crafted in Houdini through a network of nodes and python scripts, allowing each permutation to have a high degree of customization and polish.

MetaButts is the latest art project from mysterious LA artist - REKTUM. Over the past decade, REKTUM has created numerous public works, both digitally and physically. Recognized for his distinct style and humor as an internet vandal, REKTUM’s work serves to dismantle hate and negativity by reminding people not to take things too seriously.

Making A Skate Video

2018
Short Film

Making A Skate Video is a scripted satire that goes behind the scenes of how skate videos are really made. The short follows acclaimed skate video director Glen Larsen on the set of his latest cinematic masterpiece - 'SHRED OR GET DEAD'.

The video went viral and sparked a conversation among viewers about whether or not it was real. Making a Skate Video is Thrasher Magazine’s most watched video - with over 28 million views to date - made it to Reddit’s front page twice, and was selected as a Vimeo Staff Pick.

World Lens

2016
AR Assets

I designed and art directed over 200 3D assets for Snapchat’s first World Lens augmented reality experiences. Each asset was designed to be viewed spatially and was optimized to run on Snap’s early AR framework. The artwork was also featured in Snap marketing campaigns and on the cover of Variety Magazine’s May 2017 issue.

MilkFace

2015
Resin Toy

Milkface is a handmade resin cast designer toy of a rotten milk carton. Each toy is a rare, one of a kind, edition of 75. The casting process took over a year to perfect. I also created a series of animations for the release of the toy. HMU if you’d like to buy one!

FOX ADHD

2013 - 2015
Gifs

I worked as a Gif artist at Fox Animation Domination High-Def — a Fox owned production company producing alternative adult animation for television and the internet. My gifs were featured on Fox ADHD’s website and Tumblr, which garnered a big following.
